About GoldenStateFiber
Speed and Reliability are Golden!
Championed by elected leadership in California’s rural counties, Golden State Fiber was established in 2025 by the Golden State Connect Authority (GSCA) — a California joint powers authority and public agency — to help all of rural California thrive by providing the best internet connection possible!
Once complete, Golden State Fiber will deliver Open Access, high-speed fiber optic infrastructure to California’s rural counties, areas that have historically faced some of the slowest internet speeds in the state. The network will connect residents, businesses, farms, ranches, and institutions to a competitive marketplace of private-sector internet service providers, offering refreshingly fast speeds.
Unlike a typical internet connection, Golden State Fiber offers the fastest, most reliable fiber internet in the nation, with symmetrical speeds up to 10 Gbps (residential) or 100 Gbps (business), ultra-low latency, and no buffering. The future-proof infrastructure is built to serve generations of Californians to come.
The Open Access model fosters competition among providers, helping to keep internet prices low while ensuring high-quality service. Designed for resilience, the Golden State Fiber network is being constructed underground to withstand wildfires and extreme weather. California’s rural communities will gain access to precision internet for business operations, remote work, telehealth, and enhanced entertainment options like gaming and streaming—on par with the state’s larger cities. As the world’s fifth-largest economy, California will benefit from this vital component of infrastructure, which promises to unlock greater economic potential and improve quality of life statewide.
What makes Golden State Fiber unique is our mission. The rural leaders who formed Golden State Fiber wanted to make communities better, to connect them seamlessly to the world, and enhance rural quality-of-life. That’s what Golden State Fiber is really all about.
That’s what we call rural innovation!
